Van 27 tot en met 31 oktober 2010 wordt de jaarlijkse conferentie van ILGA-Europe – de Europese tak van de International Lesbian and Gay Association – gehouden in het Bel Air Hotel in Den Haag.
COC Haaglanden treedt op als de lokale gastheer voor de conferentie, die op woensdag 27 oktober a.s. officieel in de Ridderzaal is geopend door minister Van Bijsterveldt.
Deze conferentie van ILGA-Europe is de grootste van zijn soort in Europa en wordt bezocht door ruim 250 lhbt-activisten uit 40 Europese landen.
De officiële opening van de conferentie door minister Marja van Bijsterveldt (CDA) is haar eerste handeling als minister van holebi/transgender-emancipatiebeleid.
In haar openingstoespraak citeerde minister Van Bijsterveldt ondermeer de boodschap van de vorige minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Maxime Verhagen die kernachtig het Nederlandse homo-mensenrechtenbeleid als volgt weergaf:
_‘Religion, culture or tradition may not be used as an excuse where the protection of human rights is concerned. Human rights are golden rules that apply to everyone, everywhere and at all times. They are obligations of international law. You cannot simply place a group of people outside the law on the basis of their sexual orientation.’_
_As Minister for Emancipation, I support this fully: every person has the right to live in freedom. The acceptance of homosexuality is a touchstone of our humanity._
